Important Japanese complete antique Kabuki actors woodblock print set 1870-1880. Mint condition and stored in an antique hand lacquered kiri wood box for over one hundred years!. A Nagoya, Japan area estate find.
A total of fourteen (14) woodblock triptychs are included- an introductory triptych introducing and advertising the theater series performance; twelve (12) triptychs one for each month of the year, plus one more. Each triptych consists of a series of three woodblock prints carefully preserved and joined using protective backing paper.
Quality: All woodblock prints were printed from washi paper of that day and are in fine condition with vivid extraordinary color. There are no visible wear marks. They were found encased in a handmade lacquer kiri wood box descending from a multi generational Samurai family.
Age: All woodblocks are dated between 1870 and 1880.
Dimensions: each woodblock triptych measures approximately 14.5 inches high and 29 inches wide.
