Japanese a rare early “Oribe” granite stone lantern with a very nice warm patina from good age, 19th century. This is a classic style first observed in about the 17th century by master tea impressario, Oribe. He was a leading 17th century Japanese tea master and designed this iconic lantern style especially for private tea gardens.
The San Scrit symbolism carved into this lantern is quite desirable early version.
A beautiful size, shape, and style ideal for small or large gardens.

The striking and well proportioned hand-carved sculpture as fashioned in five parts from granite as roof kasa and light chamber/base Hibukuro/kiso all with substantial patina from good age.
