From our recent Japanese acquisitions travels.
Here’s an extraordinary opportunity to collect and acquire the oldest and largest scale bell of this kind of bell we have ever seen in private hands- a Japanese authentic hand cast copper Shinto Suzu bell. It dates to the Edo period, circa 1850
The big 10″ high and 9″ diameter bell shows patina from great age and was likely used by a member of Japan’s Shinto Buddhist Community where it was authentically rung in Shinto ritual at some time in the distant past.
It is signed in numerous places likely the donor name and temple destination.
Plus is engraved with the Japanese Triple Heart Leaf Family Clan Crest, Mon.
This is an extraordinary copper casting which was authentically used.
The large old bell displays an impressive patina from age.
We will include an old Japanese blue suspension cord as shown plus a complimentary striker.
The Suzu Shinto bell contains metal pellets that yield a pleasant sound when agitated.
At Shinto shrines, large Suzu bells drape over entrances. It is said that ringing a Shinto bell calls kami, allowing one to acquire positive power and authority while repelling evil. Please enjoy an actual photograph of these bells actually installed in situ. (photo).
