Japan, a six-panel screen Byobu from the Taisho period, depicting Sailing Boats on Blue Waters. This painting is skillfully and artistically rendered in mineral paint pigments on paper with a handsome background of muted soft gold mist tones, and original silk brocade border in tact. Black lacquered wood with engraved bronze corner mounts nicely frame this serene and rare composition. There is some wear on lower areas
Sailboating is a scarce motif for Japanese screens and we are pleased to have found this one on our last Japanese acquisitions travels! Dimensions: 68″h and 144″ wide extended.
