Originally found in Vermont some 30 years ago, this Maine hand made 19th century “birdseye maple” chest of drawers awaits your new home. It was originally acquired in Maine prior to our purchase in central Vermont .
This is an original and beautiful hand crafted and hand incised chest with signature of its maker on the bottom of one of its original lower drawers (see photo). The attractive lower eight (8) brass “eagle” motif pulls are original 19th century hardware. The top three pulls are later replacements. It is constructed in two parts, the top section with the back splat and three drawers and the bottom section with four drawers.
To the best of our knowledge, the scripted signature on the bottom of one of the lower drawers reads: Edward Smith, January 1840 the first ever made
This is a special piece of furniture.
