All stone carvings from America’s Prehistoric past are scarce. The majority of known carved stones come from the far western
Mimbres, Hohokam or Casas cultures. The Anasazi people from ancient North America resided in the southwestern United States. They flourished between c. 200 BC and AD 1500. The earliest phase of their culture is known as the Basket Maker period; the present-day Pueblo culture developed from a later stage.
This sculpture is likely unique.
Quality: fine original condition with variegated surface including abundant calcium formations and patina as found. Notice the detail of the eyes and arms stone carved and indicative of great age.
