Burma- Myanmar, Mandalay, a wonderful pair of hand carved and hand painted wooden large-scale Buddhist spotted temple deer, mid to late 19th century.
The large works are carved in teakwood, with finely rendered snout, ears, and bodies, gilt polychromed over remnant red and black colors and with natural antler horn attachments.
Much of the original and desirable gold gilding remains for these treasures.
They would make superb decor for fireplace, mantel, or entryway placements. Irreplaceable.

Hand made, hand carved, hand gilding, all original condition
Provenance: Private Yangon, Burmese collection.
History: The deer park in Sarnath is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma. Deer symbolize protection, bliss, and longevity in Asian cultures.
