Ancient Imperial China Ming tomb Sculptural Heads of Attendants, 1368-1644
This pair (2) of Chinese Ming dynasty hand crafted attendant head sculptures are remarkable survivors still retaining much of their original hand painted hats, faces, ears, and eyes. These would have been created by special Chinese guild crafts people as important components to be buried and added to tomb pottery torsos some 600-800 years ago.
The pleasant faced gentleman are dressed in round topped hats. Head sculptures like these were made for elite and wealthy patrons of the time and as such were placed in tombs of the elite and wealthy as significant accompaniment in the after life.
Dimensions: 3.25 inches high
Condition: Superb, completely original and intact with well preserved original pigments.
Provenance: Old European collection originally acquired in Hong Kong, 1990s and legally imported into the USA.
