This is an authentic Chinese ancient gilt bronze bi disc from the Han dynasty (220 BC – 220 AD)
This comes from our private ancient Chinese collection which was formed from, 1990-2005.
Dimensions: the disc is 6 inches diameter. With our custom display stand it measures 8 inches high
Ancient bronzes from this period are handmade and engraved using metal tools (notice the concentric circles on this specimen) which were available at that time and then in this case hand gilded to a one time brilliant gold finish. This type of ancient disc was created for important wealthy individuals including royalty to be included in their tomb as symbols of wealth and prestige. Surviving gilt bronzes such as this one are very rare today.- particularly in the fine condition of our example. We only recall seeing maybe one other during our collecting period while traveling frequently to China in the 1990’s.
