Japan, an important one-of-a-kind tall hand cast bronze effigy of Guanyin known as Gyoran Kanon or fish basket bodhisattva by Hasegawa Masanobu (1903-1988).
Ex- Adachi Museum of Art, Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture
Dimensions: 35 inches high.
Hasegawa Masanobu enrolled at Tokyo University of the Arts and was accepted at Teiten exibition for the first time in 1932. After evacuating WWII destruction in 1945 he moved to Ojiya City and became a doji member of Sokei-kai in 1958 and member of the Buddhist Art Assocation in 1971. In 1976 Hasegawa produced this bronze icon Gyoran Kanon which was first exhibited at the 26th Soukei Exhibition at Tokyo Ukeno Museum exhibited in 1977 and then joined the the permanent collection of the Adachi Musuem, considered one of the best contemporary museums in Japan and founded by Adachi Zenko in 1970, until recent deaccession.
