First we have seen.
This is a good opportunity to collect and acquire a rare Japanese hand cast bronze Shinto Suzu bell
featuring a “Double Bird” motif and coming complete with a thick black suspension rope.
The bell is signed with a label on base from its former owner: Japan J86N, Bronze bell 2 birds on top, 9409A circa 1870
The rare, heavy, and large bell depicts a pair of birds with its old original patina from great age, It dates to 1870 and was likely used by a member of Japan’s Shinto Buddhist Community where it was authentically rung in Shinto ritual at some time in the distant past.
This wonderful temple bell and comes complete with a suspension rope. It was authentically used.
The large old bell dates to 1870, Meiji period, and displays an impressive original dark greenish patina from appropriate great age.
The Suzu Shinto bell contains a large singular pellet that emits a bold sound when agitated.
At Shinto shrines, larger Suzu drape over entrances, as it is said that ringing them calls kami, allowing one to acquire positive power and authority, while repelling evil.
Dimensions: The bell with its rope measures 20 inches long. The heavy hand cast, bronze bell is 5 inches diameter.

Suzu hang under the eaves of a Shinto shrine, The Suzu is a round, hollow Japanese Shinto bell that contains pellets that sound when agitated. At Shinto shrines, large Suzu drape over entrances, as it is said that ringing them calls Shinto Spirit gods -kami-, allowing one to acquire positive power and authority, while repelling evil.
