From our recent Japanese Acquisitions Travels- a neat catch with a sassy tail.
A large fine old Japanese 19th century hand carved wooden KOI fish sculpture symbolic of prosperity, perseverance and good fortune. This big fish displays a beautiful dark and mahogany patina from appropriate old age.
Good sculptural choice.
Originally a crossbar for a hanging pot hook ensemble called jizai, these were often displayed in Japanese main living rooms for suspending cooking pots and kettles over a charcoal fire. Today these antique works of art serve as wonderful decorative sculptures as ours.
Dimensions: 18 inches in length and 7 inches high
Provenance: Old Southern Japanese collection.
