A Recent find from an old Japanese tea pottery collection,
This is an extraordinary Japanese Shigaraki Pot Tsubo from the early 20th century, early Showa period (1920-1940). It is a signed example, signed Jinsai on bottom.
Used for tea storage and sometimes a water vessel , this superb four lugged example possesses a rich luscious gold, red, green, and cream glaze- some say wabi-sabi – the Japanese aesthetic of perfection of the imperfection – that unmistakable sublime look and feel collectors seek and covet. It has no repairs or damages.
It would also make a handsome vase.
We were very lucky to have found this one from our recent acquisitions in Japan. It would be difficult to improve on this fine example.
Dimensions: 11 inches tall
Provenance: old Kyoto/Shiga tea art collection
The rustic quality of Bizen made it popular for use in Japanese tea ceremony
