Important Japanese hand painted and hand glazed blue and white Crab Bowl signed by noted artisan Kusube Yaichi (1897-1984), middle Showa, 1940-1950

History:
Kusube Yaichi was born in Kyoto. Interested in painting since his childhood, he joined the school attached to the laboratory of ceramics in Kyoto. Among his contemporaries at the school were Yagi Isso, Kawamura Kitaro, Kawai Kanjiro and Hamada Shoji. First accepted as a Teiten exhibitor in 1927, he won the tokusen or grand prize for his entry at the 14th Teiten in 1933. As his biography in Showa no Bunka Isan states, Yaichi was a prominent artist in the government-sponsored exhibitions. After the Pacific War, Kusube Yaichi became a member of the Japan Art Association in 1962, and he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 1978.
