Japan, a beautiful four panel screen Byobu with twelve hand woven Butterflies applied to its blue sky colored silk cloth surface and finished with a powdered gold mist on the back ground and finally it is nicely framed in rich red lacquer.
Dimensions: comfortable 36 inches high and 60 inches wide
Period: Taisho to early Showa Period, 1912-1930.
History:
Due to the war years 1933-1945 much of Japans artistic records were lost though the epic Taisho era and unique works of art like this screen was hand made possibly for an important commission. This work of art represents an important bridge from Taisho to Showa period art forms combining the best of Showa’s sedate attitude with the lofty, airy, and realistic ideals of Taisho.
