This very fine authentic Japanese hand-painted Shunga erotic scene on silk hand scroll is an elusive one of a kind. According to reliable sources, this artist’s works are known but few hand scrolls like this exist today. Three vibrant scenes are depicted.

Masterfully hand painted with good detailing of their robes, faces, and anatomy. The hand painting is quite precise, clearly executed by a professional artist.

It is in very good condition with vibrant colors. Old bone rollers.

Shunga hand scrolls are very hard to find today.

Shunga is a Japanese term for erotic art. Most shunga are a type of ukiyo-e, usually executed in woodblock print format. While rare, there are extant erotic painted handscrolls which predate the Ukiyo-e movement.[1] Translated literally, the Japanese word shunga means picture of spring; “spring” is a common euphemism for sex.
