Unusual Mice Find!

This is a complete set – foursome- of Japanese antiques including and original kiseru pipe, its leather cover/ slip box, a leather pouch with a metal -mice- embellishment, and a connecting cord with it’s original amber colored old ojime bead all dating to the 19th century- over `100 years ago.

The kiseru pipe is smoothly cast and textured metal is a traditional smoking pipe from the Meiji Era (circa 1890). It is made of two separate ends with a central section of bamboo. Both the mouth piece as well as the bowl end are made of high grade Japanese cast bronze or metal. They have an aged, warm patina from over a century of use.

This 100+ year old antique kiseru measures 8 inches in length and the pouch 5 inches in length respectively. They have been well used yet well loved and along with their warm aged patina remain in functionally fine condition. The last picture shows a wood block print from the early 1800s of a geisha holding a kiseru frequently used during the Gion Geisha days similar to this one.
