About the porcelain house: Kawamoto Masukichi I (1831-1907) and II (1852-1918)
In 1862 Kawamoto Hansuke V established his own porcelain workshop and took the name Masukichi I. To improve the quality of his wares, he introduced plaster moulds, engaged the services of a specialist from Tokyo and set up training facilities. In 1881 he founded two trading companies, the Seto Jikosha (with Hansuke VI) and the Jikosha in Tokyo. In 1877 Masukichi I adopted Hansuke IV’s second son, who became Masukichi II in 1886. Masukichi II, who became one of the leading porcelain manufacturers in seto, gained a reputation for developing new glazes.
