This substantial older hand carved sculpture with a prolific carving of the Buddha and his classic attendants comes from a fifty year old Chinese antique stone collection formed in the 1970s-1980s. We are offering the last works from this one of a kind group and all date to the 1920s-1940s.

China, a large scale fine old hand carved limestone sculptural panel which features a cross legged seated Buddha with four classic attendant Bodhisattva and Lohan carved in relief within a grotto and surrounded above and to the sides by an intricately incised background of more attendants, disciples all located under a defined protective carved relief top structure of attendants and auspicious ornamentation. This substantial, rarely found stone ornament was likely a private family ornament and dedication for a private shrine or special Buddhist garden.

On the plainly carved reverse we find ample evidence of hand carving from a large original slab.

This work of art in all its splendor would make a fine indoor or garden presentation and choice.
