When I first learned that a friend of mine had discovered an overseas warehouse with a few old Buddhist panels found in a corner- he got my immediate attention. We went one to acquire two of the best examples found and here is the first. While this panel carving looks Chinese we believe its origin speak to old Indonesia and that area of the world and calculate it is an older carving some 50-60 years old.
This hand-carved Buddha is fashioned from a hard wood, deeply carved with good relief and then was hand-painted in simple white and black colors and using muted stains with attractive accents. Buddha’s snail curls are finely detailed and his downcast eyes- well they are sublime.
Wouldn’t this finely worked panel look great in a meditation room, garden entry or on your favorite wall.? It is rugged enough to withstand the elements.
Dimensions: 44 inches tall and 21 inches wide and 5 inches depth
