Japan, an elegant and finely cast antique bronze standing Kanon Maitreya Guan Yin clutching a lotus branch – a sign of purity- and with pensive down cast eyes, a superb work of art, 19th century.
This example is the tallest version of this style bronze pensive pose Kannon we have seen.

The peaceful and youthful Kanon with sublime down cast eyes clutching a lotus stem in her left hand and her right hand in compassionate mudra in a classic pensive pose in quietude all exhibiting a pleasing original dark chocolate brown color patina.

Kanon bodhisattva who in the Buddhist tradition is to appear on Earth, teach sentient beings and achieve enlightenment. The lotus stem is a sign of purity. Kanon is a Japanese name for Guanyin, an East Asian bodhisattva and spiritual figure associated with mercy and compassion.
