This attractive serene and contemplative Japanese 19th century stone seated Buddha or kanon known as “Nyoi-rin-kanon” grants your wishes and removes all suffering. It’s a remarkable buddhist sculptural survivor and solidly dates to the middle Edo period, 19th century.
She is signed with vertical kanji on both sides of the Kanon with patron signatures.
Kanon, a Japanese name for Guanyin, is a spiritual figure associated with mercy and compassion.
This is a very beautiful and femanine sculpture expertly carved in a pleasing timeless style.
