From our recent Japanese acquisitions travels.
The first set of four we have ever seen.
A hard to find set of four (4) graduated hand cast bronze Suzu temple bells and including an authentic Japanese 60″ Shinto pull rope and handle.
Here’s an extraordinary opportunity to collect and acquire a Japanese authentic hand cast set of these copper Shinto Suzu bells complete with a long and thick hand crafted pull rope. The bells show patina from good age, dating to the early 20th century, and were likely used by a member of Japan’s Shinto Buddhist Community where these were authentically rung in Shinto ritual at some time in the distant past.
Each Suzu Shinto bell contains pellets that sound when agitated.
At Shinto shrines, large Suzu drape over entrances, as it is said that ringing them calls kami, allowing one to acquire positive power and authority, while repelling evil. Please enjoy an actual photograph of these bells actually installed in situ. (photo)
These are very nice old copper castings.
Dimensions:
Largest bell is 11 inches tall and 8 inches diameter
Smallest bell is 6 inches tall and 4 inches diameter
Shinto Pull Rope is 60″ length and may be tied to any of the bells as photographed
Tone: when gentle struck each bell gives a nice pleasant ring
Provenance: Authentically used, these Suzu bells were sourced from an old Kyoto Japanese private collection.
History of Japan’s suzu bells:
