Seldom Seen- an unusual find
An early and seldom seen Japanese hand carved effigy of Buddha originally found in Miyagi Prefecture of the Tohoku region of Japan. These kind of rare statues known in this region are also referred to as Dosojin (???) literally, a road ancestor deity but this rare work of art is thought to have been originally hand carved to protect and guard rice fields and agricultural crops.
Condition includes original lichen patina from its last owner’s garden.
