An early and seldom seen Japanese hand carved effigy of Buddha originally found in Miyagi Prefecture of the Tohoku region of Japan. These kind of rare statues known in this region are referred to as road ancestor deities and rare works of art thought to have been originally hand carved to protect and guard rice fields and agricultural crops.
Condition; original dark patina with original lichen from its last owner’s garden.
