Wabi Sabi delight from Japan’s Master Artisans
Many of Japan’s great ceramic treasures are purposely designed to appeal to our wabi sabi aesthetics -an appreciation of imperfections- as in this superb hand formed work of art.
A Master artisan crafted this pot with a pleasing hand formed braided edge and curvaceous perimeters all in an above average large scale size.
Measuring a large 26.5” tall, this pot is a hand thrown and hand glazed one-of-a-kind heavy thick stone ware vessel glazed in attractive earth tone drip colors: cream, green, brown and black. It is an especially strong and sturdy vessel as they craft them from durable and unique Japanese clay called choseki (long life clay).
This glazed pot may be used as a decorative conversational stand alone work of art, a planter or water vessel mizubachi.
Dimensions: 26.5 inches tall and 25 inches diameter; bottom foot measures 13 inches diameter.
Appropriate for indoor or outdoor use and would be a fine addition to your garden, deck, sun room, or special display place.
Handcrafted.
Hand glazed.
Very wabi sabi.
Only one.
History:
Shigaraki, one of Japan’s six fabled pottery and ceramics centres in Shiga Prefecture, possesses a rich history. In the Kamakura era (1192-1333) water and seed jars were crafted. In Muromachi and Edo periods (1333-1868) its’ tea wares and sake bottles were reknowned. Wood fired in “nobori gama” climbing kilns, their ceramics’ natural ash glazes produce startling textures and patterns. Indeed Shigaraki clays contain ‘choseki’ or white stone which means long life!
