Japan, a superb hand made. hand carved, and hand gilded antique red painted ,lacquered sign kanbanfor “Childrens Medicine” in the form of a Koi fish, 14” high and 23” long, Meiji period (1868-1912).
The carved Japanese zelcova (keyaki) wood and gold gilded unifaced work in the form of a koi, with black lacquered calligraphy detailing a pharmacy named from Aichi Prefecture and the benefits of fish gall bladder medicine.
Provenance: Fifty year old private Shiga collection.
