A handsome single stone seated Shrine Buddha in meditation and who complacently sits under the shrine roof with Kanj to each side of this sculpture- a rare form.

In Japan, Kṣitigarbha, known as Jizō, or respectfully as Ojizō-sama, is one of the most loved of all Japanese divinities. His statues are a common sight, especially by roadsides and installed in private shrines.
This handsome hand carved example is sculpted from solid medium gray stone, still retains much of its old lichen patina and and dates to the 19th century.
Good garden candidate with an authentic even patina and sublime spiritual aura. In his left hand he holds a natural staff and in his right likely the hoju- the wish granting jewel of life.
Fine condition with overall softening of the lines and contours.
Handsomely weathered from appropriate age.
