Huge Japanese Bronze Bell Bonsho dated 1794 and prolifically inscribed with Monk’s dedication and list of contributor’s names in kanji, Edo period, 18th century.

History:
Many large Japanese bronze temple bells were commissioned by temple patrons and customarily dedicated to temples and shrines in Japan. Monks were often the inscribers preparing bells for important ceremonies.
This huge bell bonsho was thickly cast and inscribed on behalf of several mentioned patrons.

27 inches tall and 14 inches diameter, 80 pounds.
Beautiful blue patination appropriate to its 229 year old age.
