An attractive and very old Meiji period early 20th century granite stone “Crowned” Buddha – Shyaka Nyorai Sakyamuni- sculpture with staff and “Hoju” the wish granting jewel in her left hand, the whole perched upon a lotus carved base.

In Japan, Kṣitigarbha, known as Sakyamuni is a sage of the Sakyas- among the most loved of all Japanese divinities. His statues can be found installed in many private shrines.

This handsome hand carved example is sculpted from solid dark to medium granite stone, still retains much of its fine details and and dates to the early 20th century.

Its a good garden candidate with an authentic and sublime spiritual aura.

Fine condition with overall softening of the lines and contours. Original remnants of old blue paint.
Handsomely weathered from appropriate age.
