This is a handsomely hand carved 32 inch tall example of an old black viewing stone or scholar rock we found fresh out of southern Japanese garden.
Notice the handsome carvings of multiple pavilions.
Substantial Dimensions: 32 inches high and 15 inches wide
These kinds of stone are natural occurring limestone specimens and are sometimes enhanced with symbolic additions like pavilion houses.
An attractive example that is naturally occurring save for the enhanced surfaces.

About these kinds of scholar rocks :
These rocks are hard , with slight variations, and are among those sometimes taken from Lake beds. They are fresh looking with soft color and are aesthetically pleasing. Artificial hills made of rocks like these give the appearance of strange peaks looming up or chains of hills connected by streams and bridges, with successive peaks along narrow, twisted paths. The beauty of these scholar rocks comes from their eroded perforations and added manmade additions which enhance their open appearance. They are cut and shaped from large formations and are attractive decor inside or out of doors.
