We were fortunate and excited to find this Art Deco period pair (2) matching hand-carved, red and black hand lacquered shoe removal wood benches. These neat matching shi-shi komainu red painted temple lions both originally came from southern Okinawa Japan.
What an honor they are to sit upon. If only these gentle beasts could talk and relate their history and experiences. The silky smooth lacquered finish and superb Japanese craftsmanship offer a rare pleasure that only Japanese master artisans provided some 90 years ago.
Fine condition with minor lacquer losses.
