A fine and medium sized old “pumpkin” shaped solid water or plant basin in a rustic style, hand-carved from a volcanic stone from China, 19th century.

Stone water basins are singularly the most popular, frequent and practical garden ornament found in many Asian gardens.

They historically symbolize Buddhist “purification” and are usually strategically placed to allow

visitors opportunity to cleanse hands prior to participating in a tea ceremony event or before

honoring a shrine or temple. They also make wonderful planters!
