China, a handsome painted pottery effigy of a Hen with her chicks crafted in earthenware terracotta, Han dynasty (206 BCE-220 CE).
Dimensions: 11.5 inches length and 6 inches tall
The large and alert nesting bird with her chicks skillfully rendered in front.
Her eyes, nose, comb and tail showing some old restoration as usual and exhibiting varying degrees of original burial remnant red slip, vermilion and white poly chrome colors.
Provenance: ex Skinner and old Maryland collection acquired in the 1970s.
