For 2023 Lunar New Year of the Rabbit, auspicious as the luckiest of the 12 animals of the Zodiac,
we present a pair of elegant Moon Gazing Rabbits or Usagi from Taisho period Japan.
These are finely caste from bronze, possessing old gilt and verdigris finishes original to the Japanese maker.
The Moon rabbit is a mythical figure in Far Eastern folklore, where it is thought to live on the moon
while it concocts the elixir of immortality!
