A fine antique with a multitude of storage features and options !
A fine Japanese Antique Slat Futon two section Tansu with simple horizontal slats on front panel doors. Meiji Period, circa 1860s-1880s.
Leave it to the Japanese master craftsmen to create this amazing practical and useful storage combination!
Both top and bottom front horizontal sliding panels reveal an open space top section and below, a convenient four drawer lower storage section. Original hardware, iron handles side and the original decorative iron lock front. Hinoki wood (Japanese cypress) for frame and Sugi (cryptomeria) wood for slats.
Note: this is a two section double tansu: one section top and a separate identical section bottom. They stack upon each other.
Excellent, clean original condition just the way we like to find them!.
