Here’s one of the only hand-carved antique granite stone pigs we have had the pleasure of owning- a rare and superb garden treasure from Korea’s Joseon kingdom, 19th century.
This is a finely crafted hand-carved effigy of a standing pig.
Quality: Good condition with finely carved ears, cute nose, curly tail and other details; very nice condition with an attractive patina.
Substantial Dimensions:
9 inches high and 13 inches long and 6.5 inches depth
Provenance: collected in Korea in the 1960s. These rare stone images were originally found in temples and private palaces there and are no longer available.

History of Korea’s Joseon Kingdom, 1392-1910:
The Kingdom of Joseon Great Joseon also Choson, Choson, Chosun was a Korean kingdom founded by Yi Seonggye that lasted for approximately five centuries, from July 1392 to August 1910. It was officially renamed the Korean Empire in October 1897. Taejo Lee Sung-gye founded Joseon (July 1392 – August 1910) . Joseon became the last dynasty of Korea, the longest lasting Confucian dynasty in history. Shortly following the declaration of the Korean Empire in 1897, the dynasty ended with the Japanese annexation in 1910.
