This is a hard to find solid and well cast effigy of a tall “moon gazing” garden rabbit usagi. It was sourced from a large American collection this past year. It measures 6 inches tall.
It is a charming older one still possessing attractive gilt color from a Japanese maker and has its original label on bottom “Made in Japan”.
It is heavily cast and possesses a gently used, handsome green and gold worn patina.
It would surely “pop” out in splendid fashion in your favorite garden spot!
Dimensions: 6 inches tall and 3 inches length

Moon Gazing Rabbit
The Moon rabbit or Moon hare usagi is a mythical figure in Far Eastern folklore. It is thought to also live on the Moon that identify the hare with the dark markings on the near side of the Moon. This folklore originated in China and then spread to other Asian cultures. The rabbit is seen as pounding with a mortar and pestle – pounding the elixir of life for consumption and show hand production making of cakes. In Japanese and Korea the rabbit is pounding the ingredients for mochi or some other type of rice cakes.
