The Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea, is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In Japanese, it is called chanoyu or chad. The manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called otemae. The hishaku is a long bamboo ladle with a nodule in the approximate center of the handle. It is used to transfer hot water from the iron pot (kama) to the Chawan when making tea. Different sizes of hishaku are used for different ceremonies and in different seasons.
