This fine old East Asian rarity was discovered by one of our network during this past year residing in a Japanese garden near Kyoto, in place there no doubt for many decades, These statues rarely come to market particularly the earliest 500-600 year old examples like this one. We are honored and fortunate to make it available.

History of Korea’s Joseon Kingdom, 1392-1910:
The Kingdom of Joseon also Choson, Choson, Chosun was a Korean kingdom founded by Yi Seonggye that lasted for approximately five centuries, from July 1392 to August 1910. It was officially renamed the Korean Empire in October 1897. Taejo Lee Sung-gye founded Joseon (July 1392 – August 1910) Joseon became the last dynasty of Korea, the longest lasting Confucian dynasty in history. Shortly following the declaration of the Korean Empire in 1897, the dynasty ended with the Japanese annexation in 1910.
