An early, large and hard to find Japanese hand carved stone Kanon Guan Yin carved in dan over all organic leaf form and in a mudra of compassion while clutching a holy flower stem. She has been beautifully hand-sculpted from a grey-hued sedimentary stone replete with a carved seated Buddha in her crown and completed with a fine lotus flower form base.
Signed with important dedication incisings to both sides.
Age: Great age early Edo period, circa 18th century
Condition: Attractive old lichen patina. Remarkable condition for its great age.
An excellent garden or indoor sculptural choice with a genuine spiritual presence.
Handmade and hand-carved, fine condition with rich and attractive patina appropriate to its significant age.
