“This vase uses a special technique to express the flow of the pottery glaze.”
From Japan comes this attractive hand hammered and drip glazed cast vase with a special hand applied surface glazing, which simulates a pottery glaze, and that we rarely encounter today. It is signed on its base and is accompanied by its original signed kiri wood collector storage box tomobako. This vase is in beautiful condition.
It is artisan signed by the Japanese 20th century artisans Gyokusendo.
Gyokusendo are master artists coming from a long lineage of master craftsmen established since 1816 that create copperware by hammering and shaping a single sheet of copper into beautifully finished works of art. As it is hammered, the copper becomes harder, and it is necessary to soften again at regular intervals by heating and cooling it. Once malleability is restored, the piece can then be further shaped and glazed under the artists’ hammer.
This vase comes complete with signed kiri wood collector storage box tomobako.
This attractive and unusual vessel exudes quality Japanese craftsmanship and is a fine work of art.
Dimensions: 8 inches tall and 8 inches diameter
Fine hand cast and hand finished quality, a beautiful form with pronounced shoulders, curvaceous mid section and then tapers to an attractive complimentary base.
The added and unique drip glazing adds glamour and charm in this unique transformative design.
Gyokusendo Tsuiki ware is a traditional Japanese craft with a history that dates back over 200 years. It originates from Tsubame City in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The name “Gyokusendo” comes from a combination of two words: “gyoku” meaning “jewel” and “sendo” meaning “copper mountain.” Gyokusendo ware is known for its intricate and delicate designs, achieved through a combination of traditional craftsmanship and artistic creativity. This vase uses this technique to express the flow of the pottery glaze.
Handsome as a rare decorative work of art destined for your favorite display space; it might also be wonderful as a vase planter.
