Wow, were we excited to find this: a one-of-a kind hand carved, hand lacquered red and gilt embellished temple wooden shi- shi lion bench that originally came from a temple near Kobe. One pair of benches were found: this one and a matching white elephant bench offered in a separate listing.
We date this treasure to the later Taisho era, about 1925
What an honor this is to sit upon. If only this fellow could talk and relate it’s history and experiences. The silky smooth lacquered finish and superb Japanese craftsmanship is a rare pleasure.
Fine condition with minor lacquer losses.
