A recent Japanese acquisition
Rarely seen, this Japanese octopus fishing pot was used to trap octopus on old Japan’s high seas coastline areas. Also known as a tako tsubo it dates to the Meiji period, 19th century.
Remarkably good condition and still boasting its original sea shell barnacle and coral encrusted surfaces
Dimensions: 10.5 inches tall and 7 inches diameter.
Provenance: old Japan art collection, Originally found in Ibaraki Provence from an old Old fisherman’s farmhouse. It is an actual fishing pot used in octopus fishing in early Japan.
